The Social Involvement of Art Museum

Nowadays, how to connect with the society is a great challenge for art museums. The connection to build up means that the practitioners need to reexamine and reconsider the role of art museum in the context of nowadays’ social development and, in the meanwhile, participate in the discussion of social issues through exhibitions, public education and other practices, creating an equal and diverse space of lifelong learning for the public.
Many art museums along with other kindred art institutions, in their relatively short course of development in China until now, have usually got trapped within their clique when constructing the professional communication platform of art knowledge. One reason for such circumstances is lack of art education system. The other is that a number of art museums merely pursue the public involvement taken as the representation of their social attributes (/sociality) due to the incomplete institution of art museums and differences in both management and professionalism.
Hence, in this dialogue there will be a relaxed free discussion about the social attributes (/sociality) of art museum and other related art institutions, so that audiences can get to understand more fully about the attributes, function and responsibility of such art institutions as art museum.
